Galium odoratum is also known as sweet woodruff. Its an aromatic perennial species with a mat-forming habit. Produces a strong hay-scent when foliage is disturbed, this scent is more powerful after drying. thus the leaves of this species are commonly used for potpourri. Makes a good ground cover plant for shaded locations. Leaves are lance-shaped, the foliage is produced in whorled arrangments on square stems, in groupings of 6-8 leaflets. Small white flowers are produced in spring, they have 5 petals and are star-shaped. This species is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen.
