Californian Lilac 'Gloire De Versailles' Overview

Ceanothus x delileanus 'Gloire de Versailles' is a deciduous shrub species with a rounded and vigorous growth habit. Part of the buckthorn family, Rhamnaceae, this plant was produced from a cross between Ceanothus americanus and Ceanothus coeruleus and these hybrids are known as the French hybrids. Foliage is light green and oval-shaped and the flowers are scented, clustered and coloured power-blue. Grows best in sandy loam or rocky soils with ample drainage. This shrub is difficult to transplant due to its thick woody roots, but these roots also allow the plant to withstand dry conditions well.
