Overview

Asplenium nidus is an evergreen perennial fern from the spleenwort family of ferns, Aspleniaceae. Commonly known by the names Bird's Nest Fern and Hawai'I Birdnest Fern. This plant produces undivided, lance-shaped fronds with slightly wavy edges which form a distinctive shuttlecock-like effect, arranged in a rosette. They create a really striking silhouette and grow up to 1.5 m in height. It makes a great houseplant, growing well indoors. The fronds of this Asplenium are light lime green, maturing to a deeper, richer green. Commonly cultivated, it has given rise to many cultivars such as 'Crispy Wave'. Grow indoors in a mix of equal parts loam, coarse leaf mould or peat substitute, and charcoal in bright filtered light. Remove dead or damaged fronds as needed. Mist regularly.
