Kumaon Palm Overview
Trachycarpus takil is a dioecious, evergreen, palm species in the Arecaceae family. Commonly known as Kumaon Palm or Takil Palm, this plant resembles the related species T. fortunei. Dioecious plants produce male and female flowers on individual plants. This species produces deeply divided, fan-shaped foliage. Flowers are borne in great abundance, they are small and coloured yellow. It has a bushy habit and is hardy to -19 degrees Celsius, plant in a sheltered position, in full to partial sun, in well-draining soil for optimal growth. This species is considered one of the most hardy in this genus, it can tolerate snow and frost.
