Oryza Overview

This genus of around 300 species of grasses in the Poaceae family includes the major food crop, rice (Oryza sativa). They can be annual or perennial and are most commonly found growing in wetlands. Several species are grown as ornamentals and there are a number of cultivars and hybrids available that have been developed for diverse leaf colours, growth habits and forms and that can thrive in domestic gardens given sufficient moisture.
