Albertina Sisulu Orchid Overview
Critically endangered grassland orchid found in small colonies in Gauteng. It was rediscovered in 2007 after missing for a long time - since 1956! Shiny bright green triangular leaves gives rise to a small orchid, about 300-400mm high, in midsummer in the Highveld. The Brachycorthis genus consist of 36 species - with 24 from Africa and the rest from Asia. It has a dormant time during dry winter - allowing to survive fires that often occur in the dry grasslands over wintertime.
