Coleus neochilus (previously Plectranthus neochilus), known as the Smelly Spur Flower, is a hardy, versatile, low growing shrub or ground-cover suitable for both semi-shade and full sun water-wise gardens. Coleus neochilus is frost tender. It grows well in sunny positions and will tolerate light shade. It grows easily from cuttings and roots develop quickly. It is not prone to pests but may be sensitive to fungal attack in wetter climates. The leaves are aromatic when rubbed or crushed and it flowers from spring to autumn, peaking in autumn. Indigenous to South Africa, this plant thrives in warm, dry areas and are often planted in industrial and commercial areas where they are sometimes neglected.
