Apium graveolens var. dulce is a thick-stemmed, crisp and aromatic celery that is a popular cool-weather vegetable and is often used in salads. This particularly sweet variety stores well and is best harvested when it reaches around 20cms. To grow well, it needs a moist, rich, well-drained soil in full sun, with regular feeding and watering. It should be harvested before the first frosts. As well as for culinary purposes, celery is also used in cosmetic and medicinal applications.
