This genus consists of about 40 species of evergreen shrubs, They have needle-like deep green 8cm long leaves. The flowers will tend to be all on one side of the stem; they will usually grow on the lower side, and open on older wood below the leafy branch tips. Most of the species have red flowers that will open in late winter and spring.
