Lysichiton Overview

A genus comprising 2 species and one cultivated hybrid in the Araceae (arum) family of flowering plants. They are rhizomatous herbaceous perennials native to Northeastern Asia and Northwestern America. Commonly known as skunk cabbage, they have large sword-shaped leaves and arum-like flowers that consist of a fleshy stem packed with tiny flowers (a spadix) surrounded by a hood or bract known as a spathe. In cultivation they prefer a boggy position.
