Genus consisting of approximately 24 hardy, herbaceous, perennial species, some of which are evergreen. They are generally short-lived and grown for their bell-shaped purple-blue, sometimes white flowers. These make nice ornamental specimens for rock gardens and are also known by the names rock bells or grassy bells.
