Parlour Palm Overview
The genus Chamaedorea contains approximately 104 rhizomatous, evergreen palms typically grown for their foliage. Originally from tropical and subtropical areas in the Americas, this genus consists of small palm species with thin stems and large, highly divided foliage, forming many leaflets which fan out attractively. They are an extremely popular houseplant due to their leafy appearance and tolerance of low light levels, having evolved as understory plants in rainforests. Flowers are small and discrete, coloured yellow, borne on long inflorescences and leading onto orange or red drupe fruits.
