Violet Petrocosmea Overview
Petrocosmea iodioides is a low-growing tender species in the African violet family, Gesneriaceae. It is an evergreen perennial that forms attractive rosettes of rounded, fleshy leaves. The foliage is hairy and has sunken veins. Flowers are showy, coloured blue-purple and these are produced in small clusters on upright stems over the foliage. The flowers are tubular to bell-shaped in appearance, hooded, with 5 lobed petals and the lower petal is larger compared to the top. It has a bushy habit, plant in a position of partial sunlight, in well-draining soil for optimal growth. This species has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
