Aphelandra squarrosa is an evergreen shrub species with attractive, white-veined, oval-shaped leaves and showy yellow flowers. They make popular houseplants for both their flowers and glossy, patterned foliage. Commonly called a Zebra Plant after the showy leaves - similar to the stripes of zebra. Flowers are surrounded by bright yellow, modified leaves, called bracts. This plant is native to Brazil and found in tropical climates. Well suited to placement in a bathroom with higher humidity. Be careful as the common name Zebra Plant is shared with other, unrelated species and may lead to confusion!
