Parsley Overview
A small genus with just 2 accepted species of aromatic, herbaceous, biennial plants in the Apiaceae family, originating from Europe and North Africa. Commonly known as parsley, they have bright green pinnate, often divided leaves. In the second year, they produce a tall flowering stem, carrying umbels of tiny white or greenish flowers. Both species are edible but P. crispum, or garden parsley, is most commonly cultivated as an annual garden herb for culinary purposes. Though a biennial, parsley is usually grown as an annual due to its leaves becoming more coarse in its second year.
