Pygmy Date Palm Overview
Phoenix roebelenii is a dwarf palm species from the Arecaceae family. Originating from China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, this is a popular plant grown for the striking, ornamental appearance. It forms a slim, often single trunk, but may form multiple trunks in a cluster. Leaves are divided pinnately and measure up to 1m long. It is commonly known by the names Pygmy Date Palm, Miniature Date Palm, Dwarf Date Palm and Roebelin Palm. Flowers are yellow, leading onto edible black fruits. This plant has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
