Coreopsis is a genus containing around 90 perennial species from the Asteraceae family. These plants produce paired leaves and are often grown as annuals for their daisy-like flowers, which are usually yellow or red-yellow, with toothed tips. These plants originate from the prairies and woodlands of North, Central and South America, Mexico and Yugoslavia. This genus is commonly known by the name Tickseed and there are now many colourful cultivated varieties, popular as garden plants and for cut flowers. They are also attractive to butterflies.
