Tolmiea Overview

A genus of only two species of herbaceous perennials in the Saxifragaceae family. They come from Northwest USA. Tolmeia menziesii is a popular garden and house plant, now naturalised in the UK. It is commonly known as the piggyback plant as it grows many tiny plantlets from its leaf petioles that eventually fall off the mother plant and root in soil. It prefers a shady position.
