Huge genus containing over 2,330 tap-rooted, herbaceous, perennial species commonly called dandelions. They originate from Eurasia and North America, but many species are now naturalised around the world, including 2 edible species which are commonly grown as wildflowers. Blooms are yellow and arranged in a composite flower head and this genus is an important plant for many pollinators, producing nectar in early spring at a time when not much else is usually blooming. These flowers tend to open during the daytime and close at night.
