Red Leaf Water Soldier Overview

Stratiotes rubrifolia is a floating pond plant with unusual led leafs. In winter it will sink to the ponds base and re-float in spring. Commonly known as Red Leaf Water Soldier, this aquatic perennial plant forms rosettes of upright sharp pointed leaves and in summer they can produce cup-shaped white, occasionally tinted pink flowers. This low maintenance plant suits being included in wildlife friendly pond planting schemes, however it does spread easily. Remove runners and dispose of unwanted plant material carefully to prevent it from escaping into natural water courses.
