Convallaria Overview
Small genus consisting of just 3 hardy, herbaceous, rhizomatous, perennial species, one of which is commonly called lily-of-the-valley. Recent investigation has placed 2 more species within this genus. Native to cool temperate regions in Asia and Europe, this genus is characterised by the lily of the valley species, which is the most well studied. It originates from woodland habitats and has small 5-10mm, sweet smelling, white or pink, bell-shaped flowers.
