Hydrastis Overview
A monotypic genus of perennial herbs in the Ranunculaceae (buttercup) family originating from parts of Southeastern Canada and the Eastern US. Commonly known as goldenseal, orangeroot or yellow puccoon, the single species H. canadensis has a thick yellow root system, two palmate leaves atop a purplish stem and small greenish-white flowers in Spring. It is usually cultivated for its pharmaceutical properties.
