Christmas Berry Overview
Photinia is a genus of 46 accepted species of deciduous or evergreen shrubs and trees in the Rosaceae family native to warm temperate zones of Asia. They have simple, glossy, sometimes toothed leaves, occasionally thorny branches, dense umbels of small white flowers followed by usually bright red berries. Some plants in the Photinia genus are known as Christmas Berry. Several species are popular garden plants grown for their bright red young foliage in Spring, maturing to green. There are many cultivars and hybrids with variegated foliage, coloured stems and a variety of different emerging leaf colours.
