Spathodea Overview
Small genus consisting of just 1 species of evergreen tree typically grown for its overall appearance and blooms. Foliage is large and pinnately divided. Native to tropical dry forest environments in Africa, this genus has the common names African tulip tree, fountain tree, pichkari and Nandi flame. Commonly seen throughout the tropics, this species is grown as an ornamental tree for its showy red, orange and sometimes yellow flowers. These are cup-shaped, with frilly petal edges and can hold water.
