Genus with under 20 hardy annuals. Contains species known as blue eyed Marys and Chinese houses. All species are restricted to North America. This genus was once included in the snapdragon family, Scrophulariaceae, however molecular advances now place it in the larger plantin family, Plantaginaceae. Foliage is lance-shaped to ovate and sometimes hairy. Flowers resemble those of snapdragons, they are 2-lipped and usually pink, blue, white or bicoloured attractively.
