Rheum Overview
Genus containing around 44 hardy, fleshy-rooted perennials including the commercially grown vegetable, rhubarb, which is consumed as food and used to produce a variety of products. Typically grown for their overall appearance, attractive foliage and sometimes edible stalks. Flowers are produced in dense clusters on spikes above the foliage, these are typically red or cream and some species have large modified leaves surrounding them. Some species in this genus can grow to large sizes so should be given plenty of space.
