Ruellia Overview

Ruellia is a genus of evergreen shrubs and subshrubs which produce colourful, showy blooms. Blooms possess five wide, sometimes frilled, petals. This genus is native to the tropical and temperate climates in the Americas, Africa and Asia. They are naturally found in meadow habitats and on the margins of woodland. Leaves are simple and smooth-edged, and flowers are shaped like funnels. They are produced singly, from stalked clusters or from the axils of the leaves; common colours include purple, pink, white and red.
