Also termed mannagrass or sweet-grass in the USA and UK respectively, this genus contains roughly 47 rhizomatous grass species adapted to moist environments. Species from this genus are considered weeds, but others are endangered and rare to find naturally in the wild. This genus has undergone extensive reclassification over time and many species once included here have been moved to other genera where they are better matched.
