A large genus of more that 370 accepted species of evergreen shrubs and trees in the Proteaceae family native to Australia, New Guinea, New Caledonia and the Indonesian islands that lie East of the Wallace line. In the wild they are found in rainforest habitats and are popular in cultivation in subtropical areas, also temperate climates with shelter. They are grown for their unusual and colourful petal-less flowers.
