A genus of around 30 species of biennial or perennial flowering plants in the Polemoniaceae (phlox) family native to the Americas with a centre of diversity in the North. They are usually cultivated as pot plants for greenhouses or conservatories as they are only half-hardy. They have attractive often fragrant trumpet-shaped flowers most commonly red, but with a variety of other colours available, some with contrasting spots.
