A genus of twining, scrambling shrubs native to Asia and North America, they can be deciduous or evergreen with both monoecious and dioecious members. Commonly cultivated varieties are known as Magnolia vines and are grown for their colourful pendulous flowers and vivid fruits. They are tolerant of sun or shade and prefer a well-drained fertile soil.
