Grugru Palm Overview

Acrocomia media is a palm species found naturally in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Grown for the overall stature and attractive foliage, this is pinnately divided and spiny. This plant produces branched yellow inflorescences from in-between the large leaves. These develop into large, single-seeded fruits, coloured yellow, orange or brown. Sometimes confused with the related Acrocomia aculeata, this plant is considered a distinct species due to differences in the trunk thickness and height. This plant, A. media typically has a slimmer trunk and grows to a shorter stature compared to the related palm A. aculeata.
