Night Blooming Cereus Overview
Cereus is a genus of around 50 columnar, perennial cacti with spiny stems, originating from rocky habitats in South America and the West Indies. They have characteristic ribbed structures with most species having between 4-10 'ribs'. These plants produce cup-shaped, colourful - white and yellow - flowers that open at night time, in summer and autumn, followed by ovoid, fleshy fruits that are red and yellow and contain glossy black seeds. This genus contains species that are widely cultivated and available as houseplants.
