    Painted Tongue Overview

Salpiglossis is a small genus with 2 species of annual and biennial plants. Annual species are more frequently cultivated for their dramatic, attractively veined and brilliantly colourful funnel-shaped flowers. They are commonly called painted tongues. Their blooms may be purple, red, pink, violet, yellow, orange, blue, white and usually bicoloured combinations of these, patterned with striking venation on the inner petal surfaces. Foliage is attractive and wavy, with lobed, oval to lance-shaped leaves.
