Laurus Overview

The genus Laurus comprises 2 species of dioecious, evergreen shrubs and trees in the Lauraceae family, native to the Mediterranean basin and some Atlantic islands. Small male and female flowers are borne on separate plants. L. nobilis, or sweet bay, is cultivated as an ornamental tree and as a culinary herb for its aromatic leaves.
