A genus in the legume family of summer flowering hardy herbaceous perennials native to North America and East Asia. They are lupin-like rhizomatous plants with characteristic pea-like trifoliate leaves and yellow or purple flowers. Cultivated varieties go by the common name false lupin or goldenbanner. They are usually long-lived and fairly tough, and prefer well-drained soils but are tolerant of a range of conditions.
