Begonia coccinea originally comes from Brazil and has become a popular houseplant in many parts of the world. Also known as the Angelwing Begonia, its leaves are green with red margins on top, and a dark red colour underneath. It produces masses of coral-coloured flowered on red stalks in spring. A hybrid species itself, it is a parent of many other hybrids too. To successfully grow a Begonia coccinea indoors, it must be kept in a bright position - but not in direct sunlight, kept moist but well-drained, and pruned regularly, to keep its shape.
