    Nemesia Overview

A genus in the Scrophulariaceae (figwort) family native to South Africa where they inhabit disturbed or sandy habitats. They can be annuals, perennials or bushy subshrubs with simple leaves and two-lipped, lobed flowers that resemble those of the viola family. They are popular as bedding plants in the garden and there are many cultivars available, bred for a diversity of flower colours and plant form. They are often treated as half-hardy annuals in temperate regions.
