Golden Barrel Cactus Overview
Kroenleinia grusonii is a slow-growing evergreen cactus from the Cactaceae family. Originating from Northeast Mexico, this species is commonly known as a Golden Barrel Cactus, or by an older name, Echinocactus grusonii. It is thought to be a hybrid formed from across between the genera Echinocactus and Ferocactus, it has recently been placed in its own new genus, Kroenleinia. This plant forms a barrel-shaped succulent stem and deep ribs, covered in strong, yellow spines, up to a metre wide and half a metre tall. Bell-shaped, yellow flowers measuring around 6cm in length are produced in the summer.
