Queen Palm Overview
Syagrus is a genus of almost 60 palm species in the Arecaceae family from South America and the Caribbean. Also known as the queen or cocos palm, S. romanzoffiana is the most commonly cultivated variety, both for its fruits and ornamental appearance. It has pinnate leaves composed of many leaflets, these may be up to 5m in length, yellow-cream flowers arranged densely in hanging clusters which may reach 2m in length and edible, oval, orange-coloured, drupe fruits. It is a common sight in urban landscaping in tropical and subtropical areas. Capable of growing to 20m high, this genus contains single-stemmed palm tree species.
