Genus also termed whitetops, contains 11 perennial species from North America. These tend to grow through underground rhizomes or woody bases and are generally not branched. Leaves are arranged alternately, they are simple and sometimes covered in hairs. Flowers are small and contain white strap-shaped ray florets surrounding a yellow centre of disc florets.
