Cylindrical Snake Plant Overview
Dracaena cylindrica is an evergreen, rhizomatous succulent species with tall, cylindrical, smooth, green-grey striped leaves arising from a central stem in a fan-shaped arrangement. It was previously well known as Sansevieria cylindrica and is often still sold as such. Capable of reaching a height of 1.2m, this species has a clumping growth habit and produces fleshy, tubular foliage measuring around 3cm wide. Attractive, scented, pink or white-green flowers are produced in spring or summer, on erect flowering spikes. Fun Fact: These plants use a different form of photosynthesis, called CAM, standing for Crassulacean Acid Metabolism. It is an adaptation to dry environments and involves absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen during the night. This is typically carried out during the day for most plants during photosynthesis.
