Cryptomeria Overview
Genus containing 1 species of large evergreen conifer trees that can grow to 70m high, with trunks measuring 4m across. Characterised by attractive, peeling red bark and dense foliage. Leaves are spirally arranged and resemble needles. Widely cultivated as an ornamental garden plant, this genus has many cultivars. It is endemic to Japan and was introduced to China over 1000 years ago.
