Areas of Babylonstoren

  • Garden

Set within 3,5 hectares (8 acres) of cultivated fruit and vegetables, the big garden at Babylonstoren is at the heart of the farm. It was inspired by the historic Company’s Garden in Cape Town, which supplied sailing ships of the Dutch East India Company with fresh vegetables and fruit during the days when the Cape was a halfway station between Europe and Asia. GARDEN TOURS Daily Garden Tour Starts at 10h00 in front of the Farm Shop. One of our experienced gardeners will be your guide on this tour, during which we encourage guests to pick, taste, smell and touch while walking through our garden. Special Collections Tour Come on the daily guided walk from Monday to Friday at 11h30, to discover our special collections. Depending on the time of year, guests will be taken to see the succulent collection, the cycads next to the stream or for a walk through the Healing Garden. *NB: Booking is essential.
  • Greenhouse Restaurant

At the rear of the garden, tucked away between the oak trees, our Greenhouse offers guests the perfect place to rest and enjoy delicious home-baked treats, coffee, tea and fresh garden juices. We also offer more substantial meals of artisanal breads with handcrafted cheeses and dressed meats, served with our homemade herb oils, chutneys, preserves and relishes, as well as delicious, fresh garden salads. Monday–Sunday: 10h00–16h00
  • Workshops

  • Healing Garden

The Healing Garden, just beyond the Greenhouse, is intended as a quiet space, where guests can slow down and connect with nature. It blossoms with a range of beautiful herb species – some more powerful, aromatic, rare or even dangerous than others, but all with an interesting story worth discovering. With herbs said to heal head, heart, lungs, digestive system, organs, skin, bones and feet, the central layout of the garden follows the form of the human body. Trees planted in this garden include “giants” in African healing traditions, like the sausage tree, African flame tree and stinkwoods. NB: Booking is essential.
