Firethorn Overview

Pyracantha 'Orange Glow' is an evergreen shrub or small tree that is probably a cultivar of Pyracantha fortuneana. It has light to dark green glossy leaves, is strong-growing and has long spiny branches. Its tiny white flowers grow in large clusters all over the plant, making a stunning show in summer. These are followed in Autumn by all shades of orange, long-lasting berries. 'Orange Glow' is a large Pyracantha (also known as Firethorn). As a shrub of upright habit, it is often shown to good effect by training it up a sunny (or even North-facing) wall. It is tolerant of most soils, some shade and needs only light pruning. Plant it in a position with shelter from cold, drying winds. It is also drought-resistant, low maintenance, attractive to pollinators and birds, and has earned an RHS Award of Garden Merit. What's not to like (apart from the thorns)?!
