Itea ilicifolia, also known as an holly-leaved sweet spire, is an evergreen shrub that typically grows to a maximum height of around 5m and a maximum width of around 3m. Foliage is shiny and resembles that of holly. Flowers are green-white, scented and arranged densely in hanging catkin-like structures. This species has earnt a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Award of Garden Merit. It is also part of the RHS “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen.
