Deutzia Overview

Deutzia pulchra is an upright, deciduous shrub with arching stems that bear narrowly ovate to lance-shaped, densely hairy, dark green leaves. It produces slender, pendent panicles of pink-flushed, white flowers (cup/star-shaped) in late spring and early summer. Originally from Taiwan and the Philippines, this Deutzia has a bushy habit and is hardy down to -5/-10C but needs a sheltered spot - perhaps against a sunny wall - to thrive. It likes reasonably fertile, moist soil and will tolerate partial shade. Sometimes referred to as 'Beautiful Deutzia', Deutzia pulchra adds beauty and colour to flower beds and borders - in cottage, courtyard and coastal gardens alike. To prolong its life and maintain shape, prune after flowering, removing any dead or damaged stems.
