Hawthorn Overview
Crataegus monogyna is a deciduous tree species in the Rosaceae family. Commonly known by the name Common Hawthorn. It forms a rounded shape, producing shiny, deeply lobed foliage. Sprays of cream coloured flowers are produced from spring. These develop into dark red berry fruits in autumn. Grow this hardy tree in full sun to partial shade, in moist, well-draining soil. This species is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen. A great choice for encouraging pollinating insect wildlife into your garden!
