False Goatsbeard Overview
Astilbe rubra has been reclassified, historically it was known as Astilbe chinensis. It is also commonly known by the names False Goatsbeard, Chinese Astilbe and False Spirea. This herbaceous perennial belongs to the Saxifragaceae family. It is typically grown for its attractive feathery inflorescences, these are pale pink in this species, but many cultivars with various flower colours have been developed. Most common are shades of pink, purple and red and white. Foliage is pinnately compound in arrangement and structure.
