Rue Overview

Ruta is a genus of shrubs or woody perennials in the rue or citrus family native to the Mediterranean and parts of Southwestern Asia. They are strongly scented plants with grey-green divided feathery leaves and yellow flowers. Cultivated species include Ruta graveolens, a bushy, evergreen shrub with aromatic glaucus foliage and broad pinnate leaves that will thrive in a hot, dry position.
